Tennis at Greenwyche

• The tennis courts are a valuable part of your membership. They are maintained and the lights are provided with your summer dues.
• Remember to take good care of your facilities by turning off the lights, locking the gate, and keeping the area clean.
• Proper clothing should be worn on the courts. No rollerblades, skates, bikes, basketball games or anything harmful to the tennis courts or nets will be allowed.

Tennis Camp Summer 2010

Tennis lessons, supervised play among children, games, drills, and special night events will be open to the children participating in Tennis Camp. It will provide a scheduled chance to meet and play for the older kids. It is also an opportunity to improve a child’s skills if they take lessons this summer or have taken in the past. Kids will learn to play tennis, learn the basics of the sport and practice the proper techniques of tennis, how to properly hold the racket, hit a forehand and backhand, and name the parts of the tennis court. They will also work on strategy, technique, and playing games against others.

Camp Dates and Times

June 14 - 18th, 2010
June 21 – 25th, 2010
8-9 a.m. 8, 9, 10-year-olds
9-10 a.m. 11, 12, 13, 14-year-olds
10-11 a.m. 5, 6, 7-year-olds

These times will work around swim team practices.
BONUS: One night tennis per week is included.

Cost

$40 one week (Paid on the first day of camp.)

$70 for two weeks (Paid on the first day of camp.)

We are excited to add Sydney Cowley as the Greenwyche Tennis Coach for summer 2010. Sydney, a May 2010 graduate of Huntsville High, was on the Huntsville High tennis team for three years. She has played tennis for many years and has participated in a number of USTA tournaments.  She loves teaching kids the basics of tennis. At the Greenwyche tennis camps, Sydney will keep the kids moving and hydrated in the summer heat using fun activities and games designed to teach beginning and intermediate skills. It is a fun and convenient way to learn a sport that is easy to play with just one friend. Rackets are sold at Target, Dick’s and Wal-Mart, so it is easier for everyone to play. Come join the fun at Tennis Camp!

Tennis Private Lessons 2010

Leslie Bruton, Greenwyche tennis instructor for 6 years and a former member of the Huntsville High tennis team, will continue with private lessons starting May 20th. If you have a special need and want individual instruction this is for you. Adults, older teens, and children have a chance to learn the basics that beginners need, including the scoring and rules. Couples took lessons together last year. Families may want a lesson together. If you want to try out for a tennis team and need some tips then check with Leslie. These lessons may be scheduled in the evening if needed. We can decide a time that is convenient. Contact Leslie at 882-2454 or brutolc@auburn.edu
